Cellulose powder is a tasteless substitute for dietary fibre, e.g. when vegetables or fruit are poorly accepted or not tolerated. Cellulose is a natural dietary fibre made from plant cell walls. Dietary fibres, in turn, include fibrous materials. Dogs and cats consume fibrous materials with their food. Adding cellulose can increase the amount of dietary fibre in the food. Fibre such as cellulose is indigestible and insoluble in water. However, cellulose can bind with water many times over. Dietary fibres stimulate the natural movement of the bowels and thus help to maintain normal gastrointestinal function. Cellulose reduces the digestibility of carbohydrates and can thus help to maintain a normal weight. It can also help if the consistency of the faeces changes or if the faeces are too soft.
