Professional plant tools for aquarium plant care
Plant tools for aquariums are special tools used as useful aids for the care of aquarium plants and aquarium design. These tools are an integral part of aquascaping, the design of underwater landscapes, in particular.
The most common aquascaping tools as basic equipment include tweezers in various lengths, straight or curved scissors and substrate rakes, which are also often referred to as sand flatteners or sand smoothers.
Tweezers for aquariums
Long, slender tools with a tapered end are known as tweezers. They are used to carefully position and align aquarium plants. The tweezers make it easier to grip the plants precisely, allowing them to be placed in the substrate or in a favoured location with pinpoint accuracy.
Tweezers are also ideal for feeding bottom-dwelling fish, allowing the food tablets to be placed in the desired position. Particularly in large planted aquariums, the positioning of food tablets for bottom dwellers is a useful aid without having to reach into the aquarium, which should be avoided as far as possible.
Scissors for aquariums
So-called aquascaping scissors are special scissors with long and slender blades to effectively control the growth of aquatic plants. These scissors are used to remove unnecessary and damaged leaves and stems while shaping and contouring plants to fulfil certain aesthetic requirements. The shears are available in different versions with straight or curved blades.
Substrate rake / sand flattener
Substrate rakes are an important tool in aquarium care and are used for a variety of tasks relating to the tank floor, such as loosening the substrate, levelling the substrate due to slight erosion, removing mulm and cleaning the substrate or for planting work.
When using the substrate rake, it is important to proceed carefully so as not to disturb the substrate and the important living microorganisms such as bacteria in it too much.
Material of the plant tools
High-quality plant tools are ideally made of stainless steel or aluminium, as these materials are robust, durable, aesthetically pleasing and, in particular, rust-resistant.
Plastic in the form of plastic tools are often used due to their light weight and low cost, but these tools can wear out over time and are often not as durable and aesthetically pleasing as the metal versions.
As you can easily see, plant tools are useful tools and make it easier to care for aquarium plants, especially when it comes to aquascaping. Always handle the tools with care to avoid damaging plants or the aquarium.
