Artemia - Artemia food as fish food for fish in the aquarium

Artemia - Artemia feed - Ideal for fish & for breeding fry

Aquaristics is a fascinating world that allows us to experience the beauty of the underwater world within our own four walls. Artemia, also known as brine shrimp, play an important role in this world. This section is dedicated to introducing Artemia and Artemia food - not only as a high quality fish food for aquarium inhabitants, but also as essential rearing food for the successful breeding of fry in your aquarium.

What is Artemia?

Artemia, also known as brine shrimp, are tiny crustaceans that are found in salt lakes, salt pans and salt pans. They are found in salt waters all over the world and have adapted to extremely salty environments. Artemia have a remarkable characteristic: they can survive in the form of cysts until they come into contact with water. As soon as the cysts come into contact with water, the larvae, known as nauplii, hatch and develop into adult Artemia.

Why is Artemia important in aquaristics?

Artemia are of great importance in aquaristics as they are an excellent source of food. In the form of live food, their movements in the water attract the attention of fish and stimulate their natural hunting instinct. They are therefore often used as an ideal food for many types of aquarium fish. Artemia are also rich in nutrients that promote the growth and health of fish. Artemia therefore also play an important role in the rearing of fish fry.

Artemia food forms

Nowadays, there are various forms of Artemia food to fulfil the needs of different aquarium inhabitants. The choice of Artemia food form depends on the needs of your aquarium inhabitants. The most common forms of Artemia food include

  • Live Artemia - Artemia nauplii (larvae) are added to the aquarium alive. This form of food is particularly nutritious and is often used for juvenile fish, as they can easily feed on live Artemia. However, it requires regular breeding of Artemia cultures using Artemia eggs in combination with salt and water.

  • Decapsulated Artemia eggs - Decapsulated Artemia eggs are a form of fish food in which the shell of the Artemia eggs has been removed. This food is easily digestible, contains many nutrients and proteins and is well suited for fish larvae and young fish. As the eggshell has been removed, the nauplii can be eaten directly. This makes the food particularly suitable for sensitive fish larvae.

  • Frozen Artemia - Artemia can be bought in frozen form. This food is convenient and retains many nutrients. It is well suited for a variety of aquarium inhabitants.

  • Freeze-dried Artemia - Freeze-dried Artemia are gently freeze-dried to preserve the valuable nutrients of the crustacean larvae, making them a nutritious food source.

  • Preserved Artemia - Artemia of the highest freshness in a pure nutrient solution that has been gently preserved using a unique process. All nutrients are fully preserved and allow easy storage and handling.

  • Artemia flake food - Artemia flakes are a flake food that contains Artemia as its main ingredient. This food floats on the water surface and is easily eaten by fish.

  • Artemia paste - Artemia paste is a specially prepared fish food made from freeze-dried Artemia. The Artemia are processed to a paste-like consistency and are therefore easy to portion and feed. Due to its high protein content and abundance of nutrients, it is a nutritious choice for fish. Artemia Paste is well suited for juvenile fish and also for adult fish, which benefit from the easily digestible consistency. It offers a convenient way to provide high quality food in your aquarium.

  • Artemia powder - Artemia nauplii are dried and processed into a powder. This powder can be used as fish food for very small fish and fry. It can simply be sprinkled into the water.

In summary, Artemia as Artemia food is a real asset to any aquarium. The variety of products allows you to optimise the nutrition of your aquarium fish and facilitate the breeding of fry.
