Adsorb means to accumulate (as opposed to absorb = to take up). Adsorptive filter media are therefore materials that remove harmful substances from the water and accumulate or bind them. This could be chlorine from tap water, residues of medicines or traces of cleaning agents, pesticides, dyes etc.
EHEIM KARBON
Filter carbon for clear aquarium water - especially when setting up a new aquarium
EHEIM KARBON is particularly suitable for clarifying the water during the start-up phase of the aquarium. In particular, chlorine from the tap water and other chemical substances that have entered the aquarium when it is first set up are reliably retained.
EHEIM KARBON is used for a short time (approx. 4 weeks) in the layer structure after the mechanical filter media (e.g. EHEIM MECH or MECHpro) and the biological filter media (e.g. EHEIM SUBSTRATpro) in the mesh bag supplied.
Binds chlorine and other chemical substances
Use e.g. after new set-up or drug treatment
Use for a limited time (approx. 4 weeks)
Only suitable for fresh water

Tip
Only use adsorptive filter media for a few weeks. As the pollutants only adhere, they can dissolve again after some time and be transported back into the water. At the very least, regular replacement is necessary. Adsorptive filtering is normally only necessary during the aquarium's start-up phase or after the use of medication.
