Breadfruit tree leaves

The leaves of the breadfruit tree are a healthy additional food for shrimps, crayfish and crabs and also serve as a natural water purifier in aquariums.

The leaves can, of course, also be used as a natural substrate in a terrarium.

The breadfruit tree (scientific name: Artocarpus nobilis) comes from Sri Lanka and belongs to the Moraceae (mulberry family).

The leaves of the breadfruit tree are used in traditional medicine and Ayurveda in Southeast Asia.

The leaves have a slight antibacterial effect and can thus have a positive effect on the aquarium water.

They only slightly reduce the pH value.

The valuable flavonoids and tannins make the breadfruit tree leaves an all-rounder in natural aquaristics and terraristics.

• bite wounds

To make them sink faster, the leaves can be briefly doused with hot water before being put into the aquarium.
