The SAS 500 filter is a surface filter for removing a layer of dirt consisting of dust, a protein film or small plant residues from the water surface in the aquarium. It helps to maintain the aesthetic appearance of the aquarium and supports the process of filtering and aerating the water. Thanks to its adjustable filter capacity, it is ideal for aquariums with large or small water surfaces.
Prevents unsightly biofilm
One of the most common problems in aquarium tanks is the formation of a bacterial biofilm on the surface of the water. This biofilm restricts gas exchange, hinders light penetration and impairs the appearance of the aquarium. Online aquarium forums are full of repetitive tips for dealing with the problem of biofilm. Among other things, aquarists recommend installing a sprinkler system together with a strong filter or catching the dirt ad hoc with a paper towel. However, they point out that installing a surface filter is the simplest and most effective solution.
Efficient
The efficiency of the SAS 500 filter is due to its design. The water enters the filter chamber through the float, together with the surface impurities, where it is filtered. The dirt settles on the dense sponge pre-filter. This must be cleaned regularly to maintain the effect of a clean water surface in the aquarium.
Energy-efficient and versatile
The FILTER SAS 500 is equipped with a powerful energy-saving pump. This makes it ideal for large tanks (up to 500 litres). The water flow controller allows easy adjustment of the filter performance, even for small aquariums, down to 20 litres.
Safe – even for the smallest aquarium inhabitants.
A built-in sponge pre-filter prevents shrimp and small fish from accidentally getting inside. If an aquarium inhabitant does get inside the device, it can be safely freed by tilting the filter sleeve above the aquarium.
The SAS 500 filter is particularly recommended under the following conditions:
In open pools, due to the lack of a cover, a layer of impurities can form on the surface of the water. After servicing the pool, cyclical maintenance work in the aquarium (e.g. pruning the plants) can lead to contaminants on the water surface or in aquariums with a high fish stock density, a larger number of animals in the aquarium means, among other things, more uneaten food, which, like dust and small plant residues, accumulates on the water surface of the tank.
